Patients recieving periodontal (gum) treatment will often necessitate the use of Ultrasonic scalers and air-powder polishing to effectively remove calculus (tartar) and bacterial plaque deposits from the teeth. These tooth cleaning devices can produce aeresols which can carry bacteria. In order to minimise the aeresol spread we use High Volume Evacuation (HVE) suction in the mouth to remove the majority of the aeresol as illustrated in the picture below.
In addition to the in-mouth suction we also have additional extraoral aeresol removal devices available to remove any additional aeresol from around the outside of the mouth. The combiation of both in-month suction and extraoral aeresol vacuum dramatically reduces any aeresol, making your treatment safer.
