In this section you can preview the main type of treatment performed at the Institute of Dental Implants & Periodontics. Under each procedure you will find a brief description of the treatment as well as real clinical examples. The before and after shots give you some idea of what treatments can achieve. All treatments show have been performed by Dr Michael Danesh-Meyer a registered specialist periodontist.

What is a Periodontist?

A periodontist is a dental specialist in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of periodontal (gum) disease and in the placement of dental implants. Periodontists receive extensive training in these areas, including at least three additional years of specialist education after completing the general dental qualification (minimum of 8 years of formal full time study). Periodontists are expertly trained on the latest techniques for diagnosing and treating periodontal disease. Periodontists also receive specialist training to perform cosmetic periodontal procedures such as gum-lifts and periodontal plastic surgery to help you achieve the smile you desire. This may include correcting uneven gum line, covering unsightly exposed tooth roots following gum recession and assisting cosmetic dentists with dental rehabilitations and smile makeovers.

In most cases the dentist refers their patients to a periodontist for dental implant tooth replacement or treatment of periodontal diseases. However, you don't need a referral to see a periodontist, you can choose to go directly to a periodontist yourself without a referral. You can also refer family or friends directly to a periodontist.
